The Haitian struggle for freedom and the history of the first Black Republic makes Haiti (or more correctly Ayiti) one of the key destinations to learn about during Black History month ! Today, Haiti is one of the richest countries from a historical and cultural point of view, but we seem to focus on the negatives. Join us to learn alittle more about the food, the music, the culture and her tourism potential. Come celebrate, come and Experience Haiti.
The evening will include :
- Haitian inspired cuisine by Chef Daniel of the Grill Shack and Tiki Bar in Bournemouth,
- Haitian music by celebrated Haitian DJ Christo
- Traditional Haitian “Congo” dance by Mara Registre
- A few words by Ian Thompson, author of “Bonjour Blanc” – a book about Haiti. Ian proposed to his wife in Haiti and returned in 2014 to write a wonderful article for the Telegraph newspaper.
- A few words by the founder of Kafe 1788/ Ayitian Coffee – Richard Macien who has opened a London cafe selling Haitian coffee
- A quiz on Haiti to help you learn and win some fabulous Haitian art and coffee
- Haitian art on display and for sale
- Barbencourt – celebrated Haitian rum for sale
Your ticket includes a two course set menu meal, a welcome Barbencourt and the above (subject to change)

FAQs
Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event?
This is a public bar so normal licensing rules apply. Children can attend but it is not suitable for children under 14 years.
What are my transport/parking options for getting to and from the event?
There is no onsite parking so please search for near by options. It is 7 minutes walk from the Vauxhall underground station.
What’s the refund policy?
Unfortunately, we can only refund 50% up to 2 weeks before the event. Ofourse, do feel free to contact us and we will try to re-sell your tickets and if successful can refund you minus a £ 5 administrative cost.
